Dr. Wertman is a native of Central Pennsylvania. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in biology. He received
his doctorate degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in medical school, he obtained the Rowland Scholar
Athlete award for his academic and athletic accomplishments.
He completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and was appointed the chief orthopedic
resident in his senior year. In residency he received extensive training in orthopedic trauma along with foot and ankle injuries at the Penn
State Milton Hershey Medical Center.
Dr. Wertman practices general orthopedics with special interests in joint replacement and sports medicine. His specialties include hip
arthroscopy, treating a number of pelvic disorders with this minimally invasive technology. Additionally he is one of the few surgeons
in the area trained in anterior supine hip arthroplasty. This cutting edge procedure allows for accelerated recovery time, reduced pain,
and rapid stability. He strongly believes in the team concept in patient care. This involves the coordination of physical therapists,
primary care physicians, and the patient’s family in order to achieve the optimal patient outcome.
He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics (AOAO) and the
American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
In his spare time Dr. Wertman enjoys sports and a variety of outdoor activities. He currently resides in Morehead City with his lovely wife
and their dog.
